Limestone FCU Celebrates CU Kind Day 2025

Limestone FCU Celebrates CU Kind Day 2025 by Sharing Financial Literacy and Kindness in Local Classrooms

Schoolcraft County, Mich. – On October 13, 2025, Limestone Financial Credit Union (Limestone FCU) celebrated CU Kind Day 2025 by bringing financial literacy and acts of kindness to students in Schoolcraft and Chippewa Counties. Through interactive classroom activities and sessions, the credit union reached 508 (185 in Chippewa County and 323 in Schoolcraft County) Kindergarten through fourth grade students, helping them build essential financial skills in a fun and engaging way.

Using grant funds provided by the Michigan Credit Union Foundation, Limestone FCU was able to support our community through our CU Kind Day initiatives. These initiatives are important because they directly support teachers, students, and families in our communities. During the event, students participated in activities including financial worksheets, classroom readings, and interactive games designed to make learning about money approachable and memorable. At the conclusion of each session, students contributed to a “Kindness Wall” by sharing acts of kindness they had performed throughout the year. Some acts of kindness to highlight:

  • Help my little cousin that fell outside.
  • I prayed for my little brother to feel better.
  • Raking leaves, helping wash dishes, and helping with groceries.
  • Help my dad build stuff.

The wall is now on display at Limestone FCU’s Main Branch in Manistique, celebrating both financial learning and kindness.

In addition, Limestone FCU provided classroom supply packages to teachers in both counties, supporting educators with the resources they need to continue shaping the next generation.

“Our mission is to build a better financial tomorrow through service, education and advocacy, and our vision is to empower our members to achieve financial independence,” said Jennifer C. Watson, CEO at Limestone FCU. “CU Kind Day 2025 allowed us to introduce young students to important financial concepts while reinforcing the value of kindness. By engaging students early, we hope to lay a foundation for lifelong financial confidence and community-minded behavior.”

About Manistique Area Schools:

Limestone FCU team members visited classrooms at Emerald Elementary, Big Bay de Noc School, and St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Manistique, reaching students in pre-K through 4th grade. Younger students (pre-K through 2nd grade) participated in an engaging, story-based lesson focused on saving, spending, and understanding the difference between needs and wants. Meanwhile, 3rd and 4th grade students took part in a hands-on budgeting activity and group discussion that encouraged critical thinking and teamwork. Teachers and students alike enjoyed the interactive approach and the opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world financial skills.

“Thank you for your visit. Our kindergarteners had the best time learning about money and listening to a special story! It is amazing to see their excitement as they begin to understand real-world concepts in a way that’s fun and age-appropriate.

— Jodi Riesland, Teacher, Manistique Area Schools.

“It was a great activity for our first graders. My favorite part of the presentation on wants and needs was when a student raised his hand and said “We need people like you.” He noticed that the staff of LFCU were caring citizens. We are so lucky to have a local business that cares and supports our students and school in so many different ways. Whether it was the gift baskets of supplies for our classrooms or their support in their financial educational program, we feel the love and support!”

— Alyssa Larson, 1st Grade Teacher, Emerald Elementary.

“I just wanted to send another thank you to you wonderful ladies for taking the time to visit my classroom on October 13, 2025. Mallary and Katie’s presentation made a meaningful impact on my students — they truly enjoyed learning about wants and needs and how to make smart money choices. The real-world examples and interactive discussion helped them see how these concepts apply to their own lives. We are grateful for your commitment to supporting education and inspiring our students to think about their financial futures. Your visit was both engaging and impactful, and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Thanks again!”

— Katie LaMuth, 1st Grade Teacher, Emerald Elementary.
About Sault Ste. Marie Area Schools:

Limestone FCU team members also visited classrooms at Sault Elementary and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Sault Ste. Marie, connecting with kindergarten and 1st grade students. Through a story-based lesson and interactive activity, students learned about saving money and distinguishing between needs and wants in a fun and age-appropriate way. The sessions encouraged thoughtful conversations and helped students begin developing healthy financial habits early on.

“Thank you so much for visiting our kindergarten and first-grade classrooms! We loved how you tailored your lessons to every level and included such a fun, hands-on activity. We’re beyond grateful for all the classroom supplies and your generosity in supporting our students.”

— Stacey Pace, 1st Grade Teacher, Sault Area Public Schools.
About CU Kind Day:

On October 13, 2025, the Michigan Credit Union League, in partnership with the Michigan Credit Union Foundation, will celebrate our fourth annual CU Kind Day. This nationwide day of kindness gives credit unions a chance to highlight the credit union difference—through volunteering, donating or simply sharing how they’ve given back throughout the year.

Giving back to our members, communities and beyond is part of what makes credit unions unique. CU Kind Day is our opportunity to come together and show just how much credit unions care.
