     Fraud is on the rise, and safeguarding your financial information has never been more important. Fraudsters use various tactics, from skimming devices to phishing scams, to steal card details and make unauthorized transactions. At Limestone FCU, we’re committed to keeping your accounts secure and providing the tools you need to detect and prevent fraud.

    How We Help Protect You

    We offer built-in security features and proactive monitoring to help keep your financial information safe:

    • Real-Time Fraud Alerts – Our fraud system will text and email you with any suspicious card activity so you can take action quickly.
    • Credit Score Monitoring – Monitor your credit score through Online & Mobile Banking using the SavvyMoney tool – Tap ‘Check your credit score’ on the home screen of the LFCU Mobile App to get started.

    If you plan to use your card on vacation, please call 906-341-5866 and provide travel dates to avoid any disruptions with your card. During your trip, our fraud system will text and email you with any suspicious card activity. Please ensure all of your contact information is up to date with LFCU before traveling.

    Orave Technologies developed an app to help identify unknown numbers. It provides a safety rating, indicating whether a number is safe or has been reported as spam.     Text Message Scams

    Scammers use text messages to trick you into revealing personal information or clicking harmful links. Fraudulent texts often come from unknown numbers, contain suspicious links, or seem oddly generic. Here are some common examples.

    Scammers use emails to impersonate trusted organizations and trick you into revealing personal information or clicking malicious links. Fraudulent emails often have urgent language, suspicious links, or unexpected attachments. Here are some common examples.

    • Place a fraud alert on your credit report through Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion.
    • File a report at IdentityTheft.gov.

    Card skimming is when fraudsters install devices on ATMs or payment terminals to steal card information. Protect yourself by:

    • Checking for loose or unusual attachments before inserting your card.
    • Using contactless payment when possible.
    • Covering the keypad when entering your PIN.
    • Shred sensitive documents before discarding them.
    • Use strong passwords and enable multi-factor authentication.
    • Regularly check your credit report for unauthorized accounts. You can do this through the SavvyMoney tool in the LFCU Mobile App. Login to your account through the app, tap 'Check Your Credit Score' on the home screen.

    If you receive an alert, follow the instructions provided. If unsure, call LFCU directly at 906-341-5866—do not click on links in unexpected messages.

    Yes, public Wi-Fi networks can be risky. Avoid logging into your banking accounts on unsecured networks, and use a VPN when possible.

    Be cautious of checks from unknown sources, especially if:

    • You’re asked to send money back after depositing it.
    • The check is for more than expected.
    • The sender pressures you to act quickly.

    If in doubt, bring the check to LFCU before depositing.

    At Limestone Financial Credit Union, we prioritize the security of our members. Members who believe their information has been compromised should take the following precautionary steps to safeguard their information.

    Compromised Account
    If you believe your debit or credit card information has been compromised, text ‘Compromised Account’ to 906-341-5866 to request a new card.

    Monitor Account
    If your account number may have been exposed, use Online Banking and the LFCU Mobile App to regularly monitor your transactions.

    • Consider closing your account and opening a new one to change your account number.
    • Create a secure password to your Online Banking/Mobile App Account and remember to change it often.
    • Set-up additional login methods for ease of account access in the LFCU Mobile App (PIN, Face ID, or Voice ID).

    Social Security Number

    If your Social Security Number is at risk, review and monitor your credit report through SavvyMoney within the LFCU Mobile App, and consider placing a credit freeze on your report for added protection. You can do this by contacting one of three major credit bureaus:

    Hang up and call us at our official number (906-341-5866). Scammers often spoof phone numbers to appear legitimate. If Limestone FCU calls you, it will appear from one of two numbers, 906-341-5866 (main number), or 888-896-5866 (toll-free number).

    Limestone FCU will never ask for your full account number, PIN, or online banking credentials via email or text. If you receive a suspicious message, do not respond—contact us directly.
