Limestone FCU Celebrates CU Kind Day 2026

Limestone FCU Celebrates CU Kind Day 2026 by Sharing Financial Literacy and Kindness in Local Classrooms

On October 12, 2026, Limestone Financial Credit Union (Limestone FCU) celebrated CU Kind Day 2026 by bringing financial literacy and acts of kindness to students in Schoolcraft, Delta, and Chippewa Counties. Through interactive classroom activities and sessions, the credit union reached 609 (294 in Chippewa County, 50 in Delta County, and 265 in Schoolcraft County) pre-kindergarten through third grade students, helping them build essential financial skills in a fun and engaging way.

Using grant funds provided by the Michigan Credit Union Foundation, Limestone FCU was able to support our community through our CU Kind Day initiatives. These initiatives are important because they directly support teachers, students, and families in our communities. During the event, students participated in activities including financial worksheets, classroom readings, and interactive games designed to make learning about money approachable and memorable. At the conclusion of each session, students in third grade contributed to a “Kindness Wall”, sharing examples of how they had shown kindness throughout the year. Their responses highlighted the importance of helping others, sharing with those around them, and supporting family members as they learn new skills. These reflections served as a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a difference in our homes, schools, and communities. The wall is now on display at Limestone FCU’s Main Branch in Manistique, celebrating both financial learning and kindness.

In addition, Limestone FCU provided classroom supply packages to teachers in all three counties, supporting educators with the resources they need to continue shaping the next generation.

“CU Kind Day is truly one of my favorite days of the year. Seeing the entire Limestone team out in the community, inspiring and educating the next generation through financial literacy, is incredibly rewarding. Students light up when they see familiar faces and engage with lessons that extend far beyond the classroom. I am immensely proud of our staff, educators, and students for helping create such a meaningful, memorable, and impactful experience. Together, we’re empowering young people with knowledge and skills that will benefit them for years to come.”

— Kiarra Herson, Member Education Coordinator, Limestone FCU
About Schoolcraft and Delta County Schools:

Limestone FCU team members visited classrooms at Emerald Elementary, Big Bay de Noc School, and St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, reaching students in pre-kindergarten through third grade. Younger students (pre-kindergarten through second grade) participated in an engaging, story-based lesson focused on saving, spending, and understanding the difference between needs and wants. Meanwhile, students in third grade took part in a hands-on budgeting activity and group discussion that encouraged critical thinking and teamwork. Teachers and students alike enjoyed the interactive approach and the opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world financial skills.

“I expected my pre-k kiddos to love the story – which they did.  What I didn’t expect was that every single child would then be completely engaged with the coin coloring activity which followed. The kiddos were supported in a way that every child was able to feel successful. 5/5 stars. Highly recommend.”

— Susan Wood, Teacher, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School

“LFCU did an amazing job sharing a book & lesson with my second graders. The students were engaged and excited to share ideas. Thank you!”

— Laurie McKinney, Teacher, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School
About Chippewa County Schools:

Limestone FCU team members also visited classrooms at Sault Elementary and JKL Bahweting, connecting with junior kindergarten through first grade students. Through a story-based lesson and interactive activity, students learned about saving money and distinguishing between needs and wants in a fun and age-appropriate way. The sessions encouraged thoughtful conversations and helped students begin developing healthy financial habits early on.

“We appreciate Limestone FCU taking the time to visit our classroom and make learning fun and engaging for our students. The story and activity provided a great opportunity to reinforce important lessons, and the classroom supplies were a thoughtful bonus that will benefit our students throughout the year.”

— Stacey Pace, First Grade Teacher, Sault Elementary
About CU Kind Day:

On October 12, 2026, the Michigan Credit Union League, in partnership with the Michigan Credit Union Foundation, celebrated its fourth annual CU Kind Day. This nationwide day of kindness gives credit unions a chance to highlight the credit union difference through volunteering, donating, or simply sharing how they’ve given back throughout the year.

Giving back to our members, communities, and beyond is part of what makes credit unions unique. CU Kind Day is our opportunity to come together and show just how much credit unions care.
